Olympic Events reInvented

Now.. I don't live with a backyard as big as an Olympic track field, unfortunately, I doubt you do either. So I challenge you to think a little outside of the traditional box in order to host you own eventful Olympic events.

I came up with a few (below) that could work in any sized backyard...

DISCUS THROW
Grab a frisbee and the free printables (download below) for this fun event. Print out multiple targets and set them up around your yard. You can easily set them up on your fence, or grab some wooden stakes and stake them in your yard to add some varying distances.

Give your Olympians each a turn (or two) at hitting the targets by throwing the frisbee to earn points.

RELAY RACE
This is traditional in the sense that you have to pass off a baton. But, our baton is actually a piece of chalk. This race doesn't have to be complex or long, all you need is a stretch of sidewalk.

Have the Olympians line up, in two teams, at one end of the sidewalk. Have one Olympian on each time race down the sidewalk to the predetermined end. At the end of the sidewalk, they have to write one letter of the word "OLYMPICS", and then hurry back to pass of the chalk baton to the next Olympian in line. The first team to finish spelling "OLYMPICS" in chalk wins.

SHOT PUT
Instead of seeing how far a bunch of your Olympians can chuck a ball (umm.. over a fence?), give them a little more of a challenge in more of a confined area.

Set up empty large soup cans at different distances and let your Olympians take turns throwing the balls into the cans for points. I dressed up the cans with the patterned paper printables (download below).

Be sure and download the blank Olympic Event banner, Discus Throw target, and patterned papers to have your own Olympic Events reInvented!
