Party Planner : Dessert Checklist

So, I know I already have a Party Planning Menu Checklist here on the blog. But while I was planning my daughter's party, which was only serving desserts, I found the need for a dessert checklist. I, then, decided to share it all with you!

The Dessert Checklist has a nice open area for you to sketch out what you want your dessert tabletop to look like - since we are all into a dessert bar these days!

Click on the image above to download. Enjoy!

The downloadable PDFs in this article (and across my entire site) are free for personal use only. If you would like to blog about this free download, please accompany any images from my site with a credit and link back to this article.

Flavored Lemonade

It shouldn't be a secret that I love Lemonade. Anything with a tangy sweet citrus taste will get my approval. So I gathered some of my favorite ingredients, looked through a few recipes online, and mashed them all together to create a couple tasty flavored lemonade recipes! Please enjoy...

PEACH & BASIL LEMONADE

1 cup sugar
2 cups water
1/4 cup basil
1 1/2 cups lemon juice
peaches

In a saucepan, on the stove, add the sugar, water and basil. Bring the mixture to a bowl. Make sure all the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and cover with a lid. Let it sit for an hour. Strain the basil out and let it cool. Once it is cool, add the lemon juice.

While the lemonade is cooling, slice and peel your peaches. Put the peaches in a food processor or blender and puree. Strain the puree through a cooking strainer.

To serve: put 1 cup of basil lemonade in a glass, top with 2 Tablespoons of peach puree, a lemon slice, a garnish of basil leaves, and a pretty stripe paper straw.

BLUEBERRY & MINT LEMONADE

1 cup sugar
2 cups water
1/4 cup mint
1 1/2 cups lemon juice
blueberries

In a saucepan, on the stove, add the sugar, water and mint. Bring the mixture to a bowl. Make sure all the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and cover with a lid. Let it sit for an hour. Strain the mint out and let it cool. Once it is cool, add the lemon juice.

While the lemonade is cooling, pull out your blueberries. Put the blueberries in a food processor or blender and puree. Strain the puree through a cooking strainer.

To serve: put 1 cup of mint lemonade in a glass, top with 2 Tablespoons of blueberry puree, a lemon slice, a garnish of mint leaves, and a pretty stripe paper straw.

DIY : stamped favor bag

Don't be stuck using the printed favor bags you find at stores. I love geometric patterns matched with a rustic print. Recently, I am loving triangles patterns. This DIY will help you give a personal touch to each of your guests. This is my new go to for a fun, unique favor bag.

Acrylic paint of your choice
Craft foam
Glassine bags (I used the 2oz bags)
Glue stick
Washi tape (optional, but definitely a cute addition!)

First, cut the shape that you want to stamp out of the craft foam. Use the glue stick and glue the shape onto your stamp block. I like to use a glue stick because it comes off easily and doesn't ruin the stamp block. Next, roll out some acrylic paint to make an impromptu stamp pad. Stamp your foam stamp into the ink and then onto your bag! You can try and get your stamp perfect by adjusting how much paint you use, but I liked a rough pattern, so I left my bags as is.

Fill with candy or a favor of your choice and seal your bags with a little washi tape for some added color. Have fun and bring a little color to your next event!

DIY Olympic Door Wreath

Is there a better way to great your little Olympians than with this adorable door wreath? Nothings screams excitement more than pulling up to a party and seeing the door decorated... gets me excited every time. This Olympic Ring wreath is really simple to make.

3 embroidery hoops (mine were 8 inches wide)
glue gun
string

First, separate your embroidery hoops so that you have 6 hoops. You can use both the outside and inside hoops of each embroidery hoop. You will only need 5 hoops. I always am using embroidery hoops for crafts, so it won't be hard to find a good home for that 6th hoop.

Next, use your glue gun and simply glue a different color party fringe on the top of each of your hoops. Flip them over and gently use the string and tie them together into the shape of the Olympic Rings.

You can use a wreath hook to hang it on your door. Since I don't have a wreath hook, what I ended up doing was tying a strand of string at the top of the red and blue hoops and taping the string at the top of my door. My method is not a permanent method, it works great for a few hour long party.

Olympic Events reInvented

Now.. I don't live with a backyard as big as an Olympic track field, unfortunately, I doubt you do either. So I challenge you to think a little outside of the traditional box in order to host you own eventful Olympic events.

I came up with a few (below) that could work in any sized backyard...

DISCUS THROW
Grab a frisbee and the free printables (download below) for this fun event. Print out multiple targets and set them up around your yard. You can easily set them up on your fence, or grab some wooden stakes and stake them in your yard to add some varying distances.

Give your Olympians each a turn (or two) at hitting the targets by throwing the frisbee to earn points.

RELAY RACE
This is traditional in the sense that you have to pass off a baton. But, our baton is actually a piece of chalk. This race doesn't have to be complex or long, all you need is a stretch of sidewalk.

Have the Olympians line up, in two teams, at one end of the sidewalk. Have one Olympian on each time race down the sidewalk to the predetermined end. At the end of the sidewalk, they have to write one letter of the word "OLYMPICS", and then hurry back to pass of the chalk baton to the next Olympian in line. The first team to finish spelling "OLYMPICS" in chalk wins.

SHOT PUT
Instead of seeing how far a bunch of your Olympians can chuck a ball (umm.. over a fence?), give them a little more of a challenge in more of a confined area.

Set up empty large soup cans at different distances and let your Olympians take turns throwing the balls into the cans for points. I dressed up the cans with the patterned paper printables (download below).

Be sure and download the blank Olympic Event banner, Discus Throw target, and patterned papers to have your own Olympic Events reInvented!

An Olympian Lunch

No chips and soda here! Your Olympians deserve a healthy lunch fit for.. well... Olympians! You can easily substitute any of the vegetables or fruit for something more of your child's liking. But I find that when I package any sort of lunch into something a little more festive, my child eats it all without complaining (aka. pile on the healthy!)

Assorted glassine and clear food bags
Lunch food of your choice

Print out the Olympic Celebration Lunch Box printables (available below) to dress up your lunch. I printed the Olympic Sandwich straight onto a 5x7 glassine bag for an extra fancy touch. It wasn't hard to do, simply set your document size to the size of your glassine bag before printing. On a lot of printers you are able to customize the size of your document, or you can use the "print on envelope" setting. To wrap the granola bar, I just printed one of the "patterned" papers and cut it down to the size I needed to wrap around the granola bar. Assemble the rest of your dish and decorate accordingly for an exciting lunch your Olympians are sure to enjoy!

I always get excited for the Olympics. While I enjoy watching both Olympics, the Summer Olympics really are my favorite. Gymnastics anyone? The athletes are amazing. I am always in awe of what they are able to accomplish.

So, I thought, this year would be a great year to have an Olympic Celebration! Whether you have competitions or just gather around to watch your favorite events, celebrate a little bit of the Olympics this year!

This week I am going to be highlighting an Olympic Celebration. First off, I made up this printable invitation for you to download for free. Enjoy!

a Treat on a Stick : watermelon mint

I absolutely love the lollipop sticks available at Confetti Sunshine. I am always finding a new use for them. I also love watermelon, and love serving it during the summer. As I was trying to figure out a new fun way to serve watermelon, this idea came to me - fresh & cold watermelon kabobs. Yum.

watermelon
mint leaves

Start by cutting your watermelon into cubes. Skewer them onto the lollipop sticks. Alternate skewering a watermelon cube and a mint leaf if you want to make the watermelon mint. Leave a little space in between each watermelon cube. Place the watermelon sticks in the freezer until just before you are ready to serve.  Letting the watermelon freeze will help the watermelon stay on the stick.

Side note : I painted the tops of the lollipop sticks with just a little green acrylic paint to add a little pop of color. Just one of the many fun things you can do with the lollipop sticks.

Bold Party Favor Bag

Who doesn't like a monogram and glitter? Bring some bold colors and patterns to your next party or event with these fun and easy monogrammed party favor bags.

Simply grab your favorite glitter paper and some cute striped bags.
Print the monogram that you need with this printable alphabet pdf.

(It is important to print the monogram on the back of the page. The pdf has the letters backwards so that when you print the monogram on the back of your page, it will be facing the correct direction once cut out.)

Fill your favor bag with some yummy treats, put your bold and flashy monogram on top, and easily sew together with a "V" stitch or glue in place.

These bags can act as favor bags all put together in a basket or on a table. They can also be fun monogrammed place settings for a birthday party or bridal shower. The possibilities are close to endless.

DIY : fringe garland

I love fringe, love pretty but cheap, and I love easy - put all those lovely things together and you have a beautiful wall decoration for your next party or event!

All you will need:
plastic table cloth (talk about cheap!)
scissors

Simply cut your table cloth lengthwise into fourths. The table cloths pictured were 48 inches by 109 inches. This gave me 4 strands measuring 12 inches by 109 inches. Fold each of the strands in half, lengthwise. Cut your fringe from the bottom and leave about an inch at the top.

This fringe is great to layer different colors together. Plastic table clothes come in almost every color, so it is easy to match almost any party theme or decoration. And don't worry about making one strand stretch across an entire room either. Simply end the strand with a little fringe dangling for an adorable finish.
